The culinary loop has a lot going for it, Sara Owen said. First, it plays into the trend of people staying closer to home for their vacations, attracting new money into the area. It’s also a way to promote sustainability, because the local foods travel a shorter distance from farm (or water) to plate, which means less gas is consumed. Locally produced foods also benefit everyone from the farmer to the restaurant, and more dollars stay in the local community.
